Accused Stalker Inquired: 'But Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a recorded message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am she? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.
The jury was informed that by means of emails, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a effort to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who compiled the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I plan to establish my claim."
The court heard the co-defendant developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in that area in last December.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the time preceding the appearance to the village, that area, in last December.
The court heard communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, discussing endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a message which expressed: "We're currently sitting adjacent to the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to detectives. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case ongoing.
