Previous BBC specialists appearing before MPs

We open with inquiries from Tory Member of Parliament the panel's head, that chairs the group.

She opens by giving background to the leaked memorandum prepared by Michael Prescott and released in a daily publication.

"I don't want the BBC leaning in any particular direction, I just want it neutral, unbiased and fair," he states.

In response to a query whether he thinks the BBC is institutionally biased, Prescott responds: "No I don't. To be clear, a great deal the British Broadcasting Corporation does is world class - including factual and entertainment content."

However, he continues: "There remains significant effort that requires attention at the British Broadcasting Corporation."

The second previous consultant BBC specialist examined by the panel, Caroline Daniel, says she takes the BBC extremely earnestly and that it has a "ongoing system and lively discussion" on fluid and multifaceted issues.

"Whether the BBC was ready to have a genuine discussion and argument and act accordingly?" she asks herself. "As I see it, yes they were."
