Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
