Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year after leading disrespectful chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting insulting songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past History Between the Striker and the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

All appears has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford looking to revive his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
