Texas Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Tylenol Producers Regarding Autism Assertions

Courtroom Action
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump seeking election to US Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of hiding safety concerns of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, asserting the companies hid potential risks that the medication created to children's neurological development.

This legal action comes a month after President Donald Trump advocated an unproven link between taking Tylenol - referred to as acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism in young ones.

Paxton is taking legal action against Johnson & Johnson, which previously sold the medication, the exclusive pain medication approved for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he said they "deceived the public by making money from pain and marketing drugs ignoring the risks."

The manufacturer states there is insufficient reliable data connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These companies deceived for years, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, said.

Kenvue commented that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its official site, Kenvue also mentioned it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is no credible data that indicates a proven link between taking acetaminophen and autism."

Groups acting on behalf of physicians and healthcare providers concur.

ACOG has said paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address pain and elevated temperature, which can create serious health risks if left untreated.

"In over twenty years of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in gestation, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the consumption of paracetamol in any stage of pregnancy leads to neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the organization said.

The lawsuit references latest statements from the Trump administration in asserting the drug is potentially dangerous.

In recent weeks, Trump caused concern from medical authorities when he instructed pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to consume Tylenol when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then published an announcement that medical professionals should contemplate reducing the use of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has remains unverified.

The Health Department head RFK Jr, who supervises the FDA, had vowed in April to undertake "a massive testing and research effort" that would determine the source of autism in a matter of months.

But authorities warned that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the outcome of a intricate combination of genetic and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism is a category of permanent neurological difference and condition that affects how individuals perceive and interact with the environment, and is recognized using physician assessments.

In his lawsuit, the attorney general - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - alleges the manufacturer and J&J "willfully ignored and tried to quiet the science" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action attempts to require the corporations "destroy any marketing or advertising" that asserts acetaminophen is safe for expectant mothers.

This legal action echoes the grievances of a group of guardians of children with autism and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in two years ago.

The court dismissed the lawsuit, stating studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was not conclusive.
