The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
